Welcome to Ealing North Lib DemsCleveland By-election Result
Francesco Fruzza, the Lib Dem candidate in the by-election campaign in Cleveland ward, succeeded in increasing the Lib Dem share of the vote for the fourth successive election, despite failing to overturn the previous Conservative margin and gain an Ealing Borough Council seat. The Lib Dem vote share of 37% was 1% higher than at the full borough council elections last year, and 10% up on 2002. The full figures were:
Ealing North area
Ealing North covers Greenford, Perivale, and parts of Northolt, Hanwell (Hobbayne), West Ealing north of the Uxbridge Road and Pitshanger. Until the next General Election, parts of Hanger Hill and Ealing Broadway wards are also in Ealing North. At the General Election in May 2005, Francesco Fruzza increased the Lib Dem vote by more than 4,100 over the tally in 2001. Francesco Fruzza, Lib Dem Cleveland by-election candidate, handed in a petition against Heathrow expansion to 10 Downing Street last week. He was joined by Susan Kramer MP and local Lib Dem councillors. Sat 23rd Jun 2007: Lib Dems choose Francesco Fruzza for Cleveland by-election. Following the death of Conservative Councillor Brian Castle of Ealing's Cleveland ward, the Liberal Democrats have selected local campaigner Francesco Fruzza as their candidate for the resulting by-election, to be held on July 19th. Fri 16th Feb 2007: Lib Dems Launch Petition Against Heathrow Expansion . Hundreds of signatures have already been collected by Ealing Lib Dems on a petition against expansion at Heathrow, which can also be signed on-line. Sat 23rd Jun 2007: Ealing Cleveland Council by-election HQ Opens. The Lib Dem campaign headquarters for the Cleveland ward Council by-election has opened today following the close of nominations for this election. The Council by-election will take place on 19 July. All Lib Dem members and supporters are warmly welcomed to help support the by-election campaign. At the local elections in 2006, the Liberal Democrats were just 88 votes from winning a seat in Cleveland. WE ARE FIGHTING TO WIN THIS TIME! Thu 14th Jun 2007: Ealing Council Announce Cleveland Ward By-election. Following the sad death of Conservative Councillor Brian Castle on 10 June, Ealing Council have opened nominations for a by-election for Cleveland ward, London Borough of Ealing. The nominations for this election close at midday on Friday 22nd June, and if the poll is contested, there will be a by-election in the ward on Thursday 19th July. At the recent Acton Area Committee meeting (6th June) councillor Malcolm who was asking questions about Acton-based Control Parking Zone schemes (CPZs) found out details concerning that the council have frozen the Parking account. Wed 25th Apr 2007: Local Lib Dem parliamentary campaigner, Jon Ball participated in this year's international Earth Day on Sunday 22nd April, by taking old computer equipment to Maxitech.biz, who were collecting the equipment for reuse or recycling to benefit charity NCH and to give IT job training to disadvantaged London residents. Mon 2nd Apr 2007: Lib Dem Councillor Checks Out The Parking Attendants Who Now Have Cameras. Since the council recently introduced the Lib Dem plan to give all parking attendants cameras, councillor Gary Malcolm spent a morning with a parking attendant to check out whether the new scheme is working. Thu 8th Mar 2007: A budget of hidden risks and wasted opportunities. Local Lib Dem finance spokesperson, Cllr Jon Ball, has branded the Tory budget "an unimaginative budget; a budget of hidden risks and wasted opportunities." Speaking in the Council's budget debate on 6th March, Cllr Ball attacked cuts in funding to organisations providing luncheon clubs to vulnerable residents, money wasted on a botched recycling consultation producing unclear results and the continuing selling off of public assets such as community centres. Executive Committee of Ealing Borough Lib DemsThe campaigning and running of Ealing North Liberal Democrats is done through the Executive Committee of the Borough party, who are elected by all members in Ealing each year. Three places for ordinary committee members are reserved for Ealing North. Executive meetings are open to all members and you do not need to be elected to attend.
